The Cross stands central and stretches upwards, illuminated by the light that comes from the gash of the heavens, where angels witness the Passion and Death of Jesus; at the foot of the Cross, in contemplation, the two great saints; a barren landscape can be glimpsed in the dark background. The canvas has various damages and signs of wear, and is in need of restoration. It is presented in a contemporary frame.

Mary Magdalene in ecstasy

Oil painting on canvas. Part of a larger work, the painting has been relined and adapted on a nineteenth-century frame. The work proposes, on a dark background devoid of elements, the character of the Magdalene in her contemplative representation, which underlines the contrast between the naked clothes, symbol of the dissolute earthly life of the woman, and the strongly inspired attitude, with the gaze turned. to heaven and the never reached, to indicate his spiritual conversion. The canvas is presented in an early 19th century frame.

Landscape With Hunters Oil On Canvas 19th Century

Oil on canvas. The romantic landscape portrays a verdant countryside near a river, under a leaden sky full of grey clouds; on the trail in the foreground, some hunters, right off the moored boat, follow their dogs towards the stand of trees. The painting, in good condition, is presented in a coeval frame, decorated with leafy volutes at the corners, with some defects and signs of restoration.

Group of six 19th Century Frames

Wooden frames from the 19th century, with engravings on paper inside depicting illustrious characters, in particular six scholars and philosophers (Voltaire, Rousseau, Montaigne, Linné, Fénelon and Mably). The prints were engraved by Pierre-Michel Alix (1762-1807) French engraver who created the "Collection de portraits de grands hommes" in 1792. The engravings have moisture damage and stains.

Andreas Fleissner

Portrait of a Lombard noblewoman, 1841

Watercolor, charcoal and pencil on paper. Signed and dated lower right. Andrea Fleissner was a Lombard painter of the nineteenth century, born in Lovere (Bergamo) and died in Vigevano, who distinguished himself mainly for portraits, both oil paintings, and drawn on paper in pastel or in charcoal and white lead. In his production we find mainly portraits of characters of the petty-medium bourgeoisie. The portrait is presented in a coeval gilded frame, with small drops in the stucco.

Immaculate Conception

Oil painting on canvas. On the back there is the date 1673 and the author's monogram. It is a traditional representation of the dogma of Mary considered immune from original sin from her conception; this is why she is depicted while, in an attitude of prayer and standing over the moon, she crushes a dragon, a symbol of sin. On the first canvas, the work has small widespread damage and is in need of restoration.

Claudio Bernacchi

Glimpse of Church with Sellers 1858

Watercolor on paper. Signed and dated below. The pretty watercolor portrays a glimpse of the city at the entrance to a church, where street vendors have set up their lively stall. Few biographical data of the Lombard painter Claudio Bernacchi are known, but his name often appears in the second half of the 19th century as a painter and architect in the creation of Milanese works (such as the Pavilion built in 1857 on the Loreto square on the occasion of the entry into Milan of the Austrian Emperor Francesco Giuseppe and his wife), as well as as a teacher of ornaments at the Brera Academy. The painting is presented in a gilded frame from the end of the 19th century, with some shortcomings.

Lake Iseo

Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. The title is on the back. The glimpse of the lake, animated by popular figures, boats and the small village, is typical of the production of Silvio Poma, the painter from the province of Bergamo who is considered one of the protagonists of the Lombard realist landscape painting and who, in particular, reproduced glimpses of the lakes and of the Lombard countryside. The piece is presented in a coeval frame.

Landscape With Horses Resting

Oil on canvas. The large scene is set at the entrance of a village near a stop for horses: numerous horsemen are standing with their animals, which are looked after by the servants and the peasants who fill the manger with hay; one of the servants, on the right, lets the animals drink in the nearby stream. In the background, the houses of the village arranged along the river, which then flows into the hilly landscape on the right. It probably is a piece by a Flemish author working in Lombardy. Some references to clothing and construction certainly indicate the Northern European contamination, while other details indicate it was realized in a Lombard location. The painting comes from a prestigious historical residence of a Lombard noble family Still on the first canvas, it has some cuts in the lower band. It is presented in a thin coeval frame.
