Glimpses with Boats 1936

Mixed technique on paper. Signed and dated lower right. Mario Bezzola was a Milanese painter, as well as a critic of Italian nineteenth-century art, who distinguished himself above all for his landscape production. Sunny and luminous, this marine glimpse, which sees a small inhabited island in the centre, surrounded by small boats with orange sails which are reflected in the water. A glimpse of rolling hills characterized by the brilliance of the green color, in a wide range of shades enhanced by soft edges, surmounted by the blue sky and interrupted only by a cottage, which also incorporates the same colors of the earth and the countryside. It is the work of the young Milanese artist Amerigo Canegrati, who had great fame in the Thirties, and is considered among the representatives of the Lombard pictorial trends of the Italian twentieth century; his painting expresses deep coloristic qualities both in landscape paintings and in compositions and figures. Born in 1905, Gaetano Valbusa worked for over forty years as a worker in the Brescia Mechanical Workshops, until retirement, devoting himself to painting only as a passion.
