Description : Scena di arresto in paesaggio con rovine
Oil on canvas. In the scene, set in the midst of classical architecture ruins, numerous figures assist to the arrest of a man by soldiers on horses: the halo around his head and the appearance of the arrested man, pretty old, remind of Saint Peter The Apostle, who was arrested numerous times by the Romans before his martyrdom. The attribution to Ghisolfi comes from the liking for the scenes with fantasy figures or derived by mythologized history inserted in pictorial architectures of the 17th century painter, who anticipated the choices of Andrea Locatelli and Giovanni Paolo Pannini. The painting, already restored and recanvased, is presented in a gilded frame from the end of 19th century.
