Description : La toeletta mattutina
Oil on canvas, applied on cardboard. The Master of Reflections, anonymous Venetian artist from mid 1700, he was an artist who belonged to the circle of the Venetian artist Pietro Longhi (1701-1785), who specialised and followed up with genres and costumes with scenes of life in Venice, which made him famous from the mid '700. These paintings told captivating stories of the low class or high society of Venice, immersed in their daily life, answering the illuministic desire to question the reality around us. The popularity of these subjects between the aristocrats and the Venetian intellectuals (amongst who was the great comedy writer Carlo Goldoni) favoured the appearance of many imitators and followers, including the Master of Reflections. The scene here proposed is set in the bedroom of the Lady, who is getting up and, assisted by her helpers, proceeds towards the "morning toilet"; in the armchair on the side, her husband, still in his bedroom clothes, reads the paper. The piece comes from an important historical Italian collection. It is presented in a gilded frame from the end of '800/Early '900.
