Description
Child’s head in patinated terracotta on wooden support. Artist’s signature wedged on the neck. Ivo Soli was an Italian sculptor. Born in 1898 in Spilamberto in the province of Modena, he moved with his family to Vignola where he was introduced to a blacksmith’s workshop as an apprentice. He then went to study in Modena, but in 1917 he was recalled for the First World War. After leaving, in 1921 he completed his studies in sculpture and then went to Milan to teach plastic and composition at the Scuola Superiore degli Artefici di Brera. In 1931 he participated in the first Rome Quadriennale, in 1934 at the Venice Biennale in which he also participated in the editions of 1936, 1940 and 1948. In 1957 he participated in the III National Exhibition of Sacred Art at the Angelicum in Milan. He also took part to several shows all over Europe.
