Description : Ritratto di Giovane Uomo
Oil on canvas. Northern Italy School. On the right, the writing identifying the young man: he is Antonio, son of Francesco della Torre, aged 25, portrayed in the year 1551. Above the writing, the heraldic coat of arms of the family, in which obviously stands a tower (the meaning of their last name): its characteristics - crenellated (with four pieces), with the closed door decorated with four steps and two crossed halberds in front of it - refer to the Della Torre family of Verona, descendant of the Lombard family (also known as the Torriani) which was exiled from Milan in the 14th century with the settlement of the Visconti, and moved to the east, where it continued its lineage with the branches of Friuli, Verona and Gorizia. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a frame assembled with period woods.
