Description : Mater dolorosa
Oil painting on canvas. The expression Mater dolorosa refers to the figure of Mary grieving at the foot of the Cross, sad, collected in her pain, the symbol of every woman struck in her maternal affection. In this representation, the Madonna, half-length, with her head bowed, is in fact gathered in meditation: she is not placed at the foot of the Cross, the background is dark and devoid of elements, but above her head two little angels circle, signs of the divine presence watching over her. The painting has small drops in color and needs cleaning. It is presented in an early 19th century frame.
