E. Gismondi (1931 - 2020), was the founder of Artemide Group. In 1957 he graduated in Aeronautical Engineering and in 1959 in Missile Engineering. His career as a manufacturer of lighting fixtures began in the 1960s. Shortly thereafter, he became famous as a designer, participating in Memphis (avant-garde movement in the design sector). The Artemide Group becomes one of the leading manufacturers in the field of design lighting. He wins the "Compasso d'Oro for Lifetime Achievement" award in 1994 and the European Design Prize in 1997.
