Description
Tabletop reflector telescope (Gregorian) in brass, resting on a brass tripod and signed "B. Martin London” on the front end cover. The tripod base features foldable cabriole legs, and the well-turned support pillar has an opening in its base to allow the insertion of a tool to which the column can be attached. Benjamin Martin was certainly one of the best optical instrument manufacturers of the 18th century and he is known for having worked in Fleet Street (London) from 1756 to 1777.
