Mirror France Late 19th Century

Oil on canvas. Center-European School. Not identified signature on the lower right corner. Young women and gentlemen are portraited sitting on the grass surounded by a verdant undergowth. Girls are wearing bright color dresses that stand out in the grass. Already been restored but still has some color drops. Coeval frame that has some missing parts.

Departure for the war

China ink and watercolor on paper. Signed in the lower left corner. The scene depicts a Greek soldier, already dressed up for the war is saying goodbye to the desperate wife and son. Raffaele Postiglione used to paint historical and religious subjects. The painting is presented in coeval frame. 19th century.

Oil on canvas. Anonymous author, probably English (on the back of the canvas there is a stamp of the London origin of the canvas itself), the large painting portrays two figures, a man and a girl, who are walking away from the city in the background, with its minarets and domes; the girl holds a long palm branch on a shoulder, while she supports the man with her other shoulder and her hand, guiding him along their way. The colours stand out in the painting, the darker colours of the clothes and the skin of the figures contrast the light ones of the city and the clear and bright sky. The painting is presented in a coeval frame decorated with gilded shells.

Oil on canvas. Inside a large woodland landscape, animated by figures of commoners, there is a squad of soldiers of the National Guard who are escorting two men under arrest in the centre. The scene refers to episodes that happened frequently during the Renaissance, like the historically documented and portrayed arrest of Ugo Bassi and of captain Livraghi, patriots in support of Garibaldi. Even if it is an historical subject, the portrayal leaves room mostly for the landscape element, which fills the whole scene and is portrayed in great detail. There is a signature "L. Corsi" bottom right: a painter from Florence called Luisa Corsi (born in 1830) is well known, but she is mostly well known for her miniatures. On the back of the painting there is an antique label of an inventory. In an antique frame from the 19th century.

Oil on cardboard applied on canvas. Italian School. The two compositions show different elements: on has different fruit in the foreground with colorful flowers; the other one shows a plate from which are fallinf flowers and fruit. They had been restored and need to be cleaned. They come with frames.

Episodes from the Life of John the Baptist

Five drawings mixed technique on paper, depicting scenes from the life of St. John the Baptist, as recounted in the Gospels (The Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth, the birth, the Baptism of Jesus, beheading, Salome presents the severed head to Herod). The back label specifies that the designs are copied from the cycle of the Chapel of St. John the Baptist in the famous Basilica of San Lorenzo in Genoa. In the frame.

Oil on canvas. It probably depicts a tragic anti-Semitic event. On the right, a wounded soldier in Russian uniform is witnessing the dramatic scene of a slaughtered family while the rabbi is preying for them. The broken window and the upside down drawers make clear that the killers broke into the house. On the left of the mirror, there is a Jewish writing that may suggest the location. The word may be translated as 'Ciro' and may be referring to the areas of Georgia and Azerbaijan near the Kura (river flowing from Turkey to the Caspian Sea, known as 'Ciro' in 1800s). The painting, restored and relined, is presented in a frame of the 1800s.

Still Life with carpets, jewels, fruit and a mirror

Oil on canvas attributable to Antonio Gianlisi. According to the different depicted objects such as a shirt thrown on an armchair, some jewels, a dressing table with mirror, some fruit and a tray with a pitcher and glasses, the still life could be located in the private room of a rich woman. Restored and relined, presented in an antique coeval frame. 18th century-19th century.

Monochrome painting on porcelain plate. At the bottom right there is the signature A.Barbero and the date 1864. The monochrome painting propose the drammatical scene of Christ's Descent from The Cross and the weeping over his body of his mother Mary, the pious women, and Nicodemus as a sculptorial group. The painting comes with a coeval gilded frame.

Nettuno, Sea View

Oil on panel. Signed and located bottom left. The seascape is a view from the village on the Roman coast: on the rocky beach, a small child figure plays on his knees. In a fast and effective style, the small painting reminds of the production of Baldomero Galofre, a Catalan artist who lived in Rome from 1870 to 1882, while studying at the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts. Presented in a frame from early 20th century.

The glimpse shows a river that flows fastlly crossing an hilly landscape; along the shore, at the left side, there are two women that are washing clothes and a wayfarer; on the right side of the river, in the background, ther is a small hamlet. The painting shows small drops of color. It comes in a 20th century frame that had been gilded again.
