Description : Scorcio da Oltrona del Lago di Varese

Oil on paper. Signed lower left. At the back, localization of the portrait landscape. A pupil of Hayez and Bertini at the Brera Academy in Milan, Achille Beltrame as a painter created hundreds of oil, watercolor, tempera and pencil paintings, portraying many landscapes of Lombard localities and valleys, but also producing historical subjects and scenes of Milanese life . His best known and most important production is, moreover, that as an illustrator, in particular for his collaboration with the Domenica del Corriere, which made his color plates the hallmark of the magazine. The small landscape is presented in a styled frame.

Artist: Achille Beltrame (1871-1945)

Born in Arzignano (VI) in 1871, Achille Beltrame studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan with Giuseppe Bertini. While still a student, he exhibited the painting "La Bicocca the day after the battle of Novara", which earned him the Mylius prize and is currently kept at the Brera Academy in Milan. He made many portraits, two of which are in the collection of the Ospedale Maggiore in Milan, he painted altarpieces, panels and murals, but his main activity, from 1898 until his death, was explained for the illustrations of the two pages at colors of the weekly "La Domenica del Corriere", a periodical widespread in Italy and abroad, which earned Beltrame an international reputation.
