Description : Mappa di Alcune Isole del Mar Mediterraneo
Engraving. Taken from the "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum", it is considered the first true modern atlas, drawn up by Abramo Ortelio, and published for the first time in 1570; it consisted of a collection of maps with supporting texts. The engraving presented here is titled "Insularum aliquot maris Mediterranei descriptio", it offers a map of six Mediterranean islands on the front, namely Sicily, Sardinia, Corfu, Zerbi, Elba and Malta; on the back, corresponding to the following page of the volume, of which in fact there is the numbering, there is the description in Latin of the same islands. The engraving is in very good condition, even the central fold of the pages is barely visible. It is presented in a frame.
