Description : Senza titolo

Mixed media on paper. Signed and dated lower right. After a neorealist debut that celebrated figures and environments of a poor rural life, the Cesena painter Giovanni Cappelli started from the 1960s towards a painting that, while maintaining the theme of a degraded and marginalized humanity, replaces rural subjects with themes of life and metropolitan realities set in poor interiors or in the gloomy and oppressive Milanese suburbs, which he depicts through new formal syntheses, with an expressionist imprint. From the 70s begins a path defined "from dark to light", in which he abandons social issues in favor of an existentialist reflection, adopting a style with informal inflections and characterized by coloristic recovery. The work is presented in a frame.
