Description : Bozzetti per costumi

Tempera on paper. Signed at the bottom, the four sketches, presented on two facing sheets, are accompanied by the title of the character's name and the title of the opera. Two of them propose the costumes for Ben Jonson's "The Fox", the other two those of Fenisa and Captain Osorio, characters from the opera "Fenisa's Love" by Lope de Vega. The two drawings on the back have the dry pencil inscription "No" at the top, evidently because they were rejected by the artist. Emanuele Luzzati's eclectic activity was extraordinary: he was an illustrator, set designer, costume designer, decorator, a master in every applied art; he was also twice nominated for an Oscar for two animated films. The interpreter of a skilful and cultured figurative culture, capable of skilfully using all sorts of materials (from terracotta to enamel, from weaving wool for tapestries to engraving on different supports, to collages of paper and composite fabrics) to create sketches for sets, costumes and naval installations, thanks to the richness of his fantastic world and the immediacy and expressiveness of his very personal style, Luzzati was one of the most loved and admired artists of our time. The sketches are presented in a double-glazed frame.

In 1975 he was among the founders of the Teatro della Tosse in Genoa together with Tonino Conte and Aldo Trionfo. Emanuele Luzzati has also illustrated many books including in 1988 "The Selected Fairy Tales" by the Brothers Grimm in the out-of-print edition of the Olivetti Company. Luzzati is part of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale) and the Academy. In 1992 he was awarded an honorary degree in Architecture by the University of Genoa. In 1995 he received the Ubu award for the best Italian theatrical scenography of the year for the scenes of Pinocchio. In Genoa in 1996 an anthological exhibition of his work was set up at the Palazzo Ducale. In 1997 he created the "Magic Flute Park" for children in S. In 2001 in Genoa, in the evocative sixteenth-century location of Porta Siberia, “Luzzati a Porta Siberia” was opened, a museum dedicated to his entire work as a set designer and illustrator.
