Description : Paesaggio crepuscolare
Pastel on cardboard. Signed E. Duez lower right. On the back label of the Buenos Aires Art Gallery, with exposure date of 1898. Painter, pastelist and watercolorist, the Parisian artist Ernest Ange Duez stood out for his subtle and sensitive line. He portrayed scenes from everyday life, portraits, religious themes, genre and marine scenes. The latter in particular were always made en plein air in Villerville in Normandy and in Le Havre and always portray the sea from the coast. Certainly close to Impressionism, Duez formulated his own pictorial modality which was called the "juste milieu" (the right middle way), between the conservative realist painting of the Salon and the most conspicuous manifestations of full impressionism. The painting is presented in a contemporary frame.
