Charles Ormond Eames, Jr (Saint Louis, June 17, 1907 - Saint Louis, August 21, 1978) was an American designer, architect and director. He studied architecture at Washington University in St. Louis. A great influence had on him the Finnish architect Eero Saarinen with whom he shared some professional experiences and with whom he became friends. In 1938, at the invitation of the latter, he moved to Michigan, where he studied architecture at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. In 1941 he won, with Eero Saarinen, the competition for the MoMA in New York relating to "Organic Design in Home Furnishing". In 1941 she married Ray Kaiser, also an architect and designer, with whom she shared her subsequent professional life. He was awarded several prestigious awards including: the Kaufmann International Design Award in 1961, the 25 Year American Institute of Architects Award in 1977, the Queen's Gold Medal for Architecture in 1979. -Ray Eams
