Mixed technique on canvas. On the back present the signature, the date and the title. Senegalese artist Soly Cissé creates works that are both pictorial and graphic, rooted in the culture of his hometown and full of autobiographical content. Cissé creates fantastic worlds where figures emerge from chaos and disharmony. His figures blend animal and human forms into strange, unlikely hybrids who wear death masks as if they were deities from a magical world. Sequences of numbers and letters are often inserted, referencing both barcodes and mystical numerology. The work proposed here presents all these elements, which surround a scene of nepotism/favoritism, as the title suggests.

Landscape with Sheeps and Shepherds

An Alpine winter landscape, with sheep drinking from the stream in the middle of the pine forest, rendered with brushstrokes and thick, almost material chromatic mixtures, typical of the painting of Lucia Crotti, an artist from Monza who specialized in landscapes. The work is presented in a frame from the early 1900s.

Roses 1971

Oil on canvas, mounted on plywood. Signed and dated lower right. On the back further signature, date and label with the title. The composition of roses in a vase is created through the use of highly material colour. It is meant to be the presentation of an object of daily life, which inspires the artist's poetics, as it was for all the production of this artist from Brescia. The work is presented in a period frame.

Landscape with Houses 1966

Oil painting on canvas. Signed and dated lower left. It is a glimpse of houses at the entrance to the town, rendered with a marked geometric dimension and a material use of colour, as characteristic of the painter from Gussago (Bs) Eugenio Levi, whose pictorial poetics was always inspired by "things" and places he lived. The work is framed in style.

The Artist and the Young Woman

Oil painting on canvas. French school of the 19th century. Tasty genre scene set in the studio of a young and blond painter, distracted from his work by the girl who, with her basket of vegetables on her arm, places a sweet kiss on his forehead, probably to reward the pictorial work she is pointing to with the finger outstretched. Lively in the colors, as well as in the attitudes of the characters, rich in furnishing elements and details, the work appears successful and has a pleasant effect. It is presented in a coeval frame.

Untitled 1973

Mixed technique on plywood. Signed and dated on the reverse. It is an early work by Gioppè di Bella, the artist originally from Trapani who, having moved to Milan and frequenting his artistic milieu, came to become one of the exponents of Optical Art. Gioppe Di Bella starting from 1972, seeking the essence of forms, he arrived at the first geometric works, in which the circle became the basic element. The work proposed here belongs to this period, a rigorously geometric and orderly composition of chipboard cylinders, painted in different ranges of blue-azure, and applied on an aluminum sheet mounted on a plywood panel. Di Bella progressively approached the liberation from two-dimensionality, and from 1975 to 1985, he began to create large tableaux using modern technology materials, such as specular plexiglass, stainless steel and polyurethane foam, thus tackling the problem of optical illusion and the constancy of form.

Landscape with Figures 1874

Watercolor on paper. Signed and dated lower left. A barren and marshy land is crossed by a farmer's cart with two villagers on board. It is the traditional painting of this English painter, who produced numerous landscapes in England and beyond, in oil and watercolour. The work is presented in a gilt frame from the early 1900s.

Oil painting on canvas. Venetian school of the seventeenth century. Entirely in the foreground, this scene of a group of sacred figures, which presents the faces of Mary and the Child Jesus in the centre, surrounded by the young San Giovanni in the lower left, and three angels forming a crown around. All the characters are happy and smiling, despite the reference to passion given by the stick surmounted by the Cross which John offers to Jesus. The movement of the bodies and the bright colors make the scene come alive. The painting is still on the first canvas, with no signs of previous restoration. There are several drops of color, spread above all along the lower margin and the two sides. It is presented in an antique lacquered wooden frame.

The great style scene, takes up the pictorial compositions of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the so-called architectural whims, which placed ancient architectural structures, often in ruins, within an Italian landscape animated by popular figures. It is a Venetian corner facing the sea, probably overlooking the Giudecca Canal, with a quay crowded with various female figures, dressed in clothes from the first half of the 1900s, perhaps waiting for a boat.
