Description : Senza titolo

Mixed media on paper. Signed and dated on the left. The work belongs to the 1960s production of Amilcare Rambelli, a period in which the Milanese artist, painter, illustrator but above all sculptor, turns his production towards the outside, in search of an involvement of the environmental space in the relationship between elements of organic systems and structures of mechanical systems: a design sequence is born that preludes in his sculptures to complex polymaterial assemblages in which steel, copper, bronze, aluminum, Plexiglas, drawing fragments and films find unprecedented balances. These are works that tend towards a geometric setting, technically innovative and suggestive, which attack the space in every direction with intense dynamism, testifying the search for a consonance between the artist and his own time. In the paintings of this period, to which the work presented here also belongs, Rambelli transposes on paper or canvas the same projects made as a sculptor. The work is framed.

Additional Information

Artist: Amilcare Rambelli (1924-1976)

Born in Milan in 1924, Amilcare Rambelli left the city in 1943, in the midst of the drama of the war, to take refuge in Abruzzo, the homeland of his parents. Returning to Milan in 1945, he made caricatures for the "Italian Illustration" and then book covers and illustrations, especially around 1949, for the Baldini and Castoldi publishing house. In the background, the lively atmosphere of the immediate post-war period, animated from the desire to reconnect art to life, to history, to its problems, which leaves its mark on its interests and directs its future programs. He is especially interested in the social issue, which will significantly influence his painting of the fifties, lived again in Abruzzo, where he meets Elisa, who becomes his partner and collaborator. In addition to painting and drawing, he applied himself to ceramics, already cultivated in Milan after the war. In 1959 he definitively returned to Milan, where he began to devote himself above all to sculpture, with a specific attention to the material, which joins the artisan taste of making. In 1962 he opened his first personal exhibition in Milan, in the important Galleria Pater, presenting works in terracotta in which organic structures develop from the apparent informality of the material. In the following years he proceeded with research on the generative moment of form, even in works of considerable size, testing the relationship between rough surfaces and organisms emerging from inside cracks that break the plastic uniformity, in analogy with the generative development of nature. His career leads him to create and exhibit throughout Italy, also participating in collective movements and reviews and achieving great success with critics and audiences. He died prematurely in 1976.
