Oil painting on canvas. Signed lower left. Further signature and title on the back. Thanks to his business trips, he was able to portray glimpses of the whole world "en plein air", even if the glimpses of Brescia places are the most recurring subject. Affiliated to the Associazione Artisti Bresciani, he was able to exhibit his works and make himself known by critics . In his canvases the landscapes are permeated with great serenity and tranquility, an elegy of serene memories of real life. The painting proposed here presents a glimpse of a town on Lake Garda. Additional Information

Artist: Gaetano Valbusa (1905-1989)

Born in Valeggio sul Mincio, Gaetano Valbusa had a difficult childhood which forced him still very young to work in mechanical workshops and to devote himself to painting initially only as a pastime, and favoring that "en plein air". His work often takes him around the world, allowing him to paint distant places, exotic landscapes. In the meantime he joined the Brescian Artists Association and participated in group exhibitions, making himself recognized by critics. In 1961 he sets up his first solo show at the "Loggetta" in Brescia. Upon retirement, he spends all his energy on painting, continuing to travel, even if the localities of Brescia become more and more his favorite subjects. He died in 1989. .

Time: XX Century - from 1901 to 2000

The twentieth century is characterized by the prevalence of the bourgeoisie over the working class and by the discovery that life continues to be a struggle for survival and to improve its quality. Technological progress, instead of favoring this development, becomes an instrument of mechanization and drying up of man, who needs to look for a "soul supplement" and new forms to express it. Therefore, a whole series of artistic currents are born that create works expressing the interiority of man, which evoke reality from within rather than represent it, and depict it using, freely, shapes and colors. We therefore have Decadentism with Art Nouveau, Matisse and Braque's Fauvism, Picasso's Cubism, then Expressionism with Munch, Kandinskij's Abstractionism and Metaphysical painting by Carrà and De Chirico. There are numerous currents and groups of artists and intellectuals who use Art as a Manifesto of their thought, often also with a political connotation.

Subject: Landscape

Artistic technique: Pittura
