Oil on wooden table. Signed and dated on the barrel at the bottom center. The tasty scene is set in a farrier's shop, a shed close to a building: in the center the farrier and his assistant shoe a horse, which occupies the entire right portion of the scene; on the left, a musician along the road is attacked by a dog, which is pushed away by another worker, who tries to chase him away by waving his hat. In the upper part of the scene, the facade of the building with the grated windows animated by flowers and cat, and the votive loggia with the statue of a saint; on the roofing boards of the shed, various birds, especially pigeons, scurry and peck. The painting is part of the typical production of Johann Michael Neder, who preferred to paint scenes of popular life or the Viennese bourgeoisie; his scenes are full of figures and elements of daily life, carefully detailed. The painting shows traces of old restorations.
