Oil painting on canvas. On the back the signature "Gius. La Leta sordo muto pittore". It is a nineteenth-century copy of the self-portrait of Elisabeth-Louise Vigée-Le Brun (1755 -1842), court painter of Marie Antoinette of France, skilled portrait painter and indomitable woman as well as wife of Jean-Baptiste-Pierre Le Brun. This self-portrait of his (the painter made several!), Preserved at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, has been repeatedly replicated in the decades following his death: this copy is the work of the painter Giuseppe La Leta, deaf-mute painter from Comiso, who studied at the Roman Academy of San Luca where he was able to observe and copy various works, The painting is presented in a redorated frame from the end of the 19th century.
