Oil on board. Signed lower left. Considered one of the most poetic landscape painters of the 1900s, the Lombard painter Ambrogio Vismara transposed his love for his native places into his works, dedicating most of his life to the Lombard landscapes - the mountains, the plains, the hills of his native Brianza production, and evoking almost all of them in autumnal atmospheres and tones. His peculiarity was the use of the spatula instead of the brush, which allowed him to obtain an effect of tonal spots, with a clear contrast of planes. Here is a small glimpse of a pond, with Alpine peaks that can be glimpsed in the background, and which refer to the Lombard plain. Framed in style.

Additional Information
Artist: Ambrogio Vismara (1900-1994)
Born in Seregno (Milan) in 1900, Ambrogio Vismara is considered one of the most poetic landscape painters of the 20th century. He transposed his love for his native places into his works, dedicating most of his production to the Lombard landscapes - the mountains, the plains, the hills of his native Brianza - and evoking almost all of them in autumnal atmospheres and tones. His peculiarity was the use of the spatula instead of the brush, which allowed him to obtain an effect of tonal spots, with a clear contrast of planes. Less conspicuous, however, was his orientalist production, in which he used the same technique, but introducing the warmer and brighter colors evoked by the sun of Eastern countries. Ambrogio Vismara died in Milan in 1994.Age: 20th Century / 1901 - 2000
The twentieth century is characterized by the prevalence of the bourgeoisie over the working class and by the discovery that life continues to be a struggle for survival and to improve its quality. Technological progress, instead of favoring this development, becomes an instrument of mechanization and drying up of man, who needs to look for a "soul supplement" and new forms to express it. Therefore, a whole series of artistic currents are born that create works expressing the interiority of man, which evoke reality from within rather than represent it, and depict it using, freely, shapes and colors. We therefore have Decadentism with Art Nouveau, Matisse and Braque's Fauvism, Picasso's Cubism, then Expressionism with Munch, Kandinskij's Abstractionism and Metaphysical painting by Carrà and De Chirico. There are numerous currents and groups of artists and intellectuals who use Art as a Manifesto of their thought, often also with a political connotation.Find out more about the 20th century with our insights:
