Watercolor on paper. Signed lower right. Giuseppe Gabani, who was a Cavalry officer and participated in many uprisings of the Risorgimento, stood out in particular for his equestrian subjects, battle scenes, orientalism, made with vivacity of color and pictorial emphasis. Here instead we have a delicate watercolor of his, which offers a landscape with a river flowing in the countryside and walking figurines: in Gabani's production there are actually many of these landscapes, calm in colors and rather pervaded by peace and tranquility. In coeval frame.

Additional Information
Artist: Giuseppe Gabani (1846-1900)
Born in Senigallia in 1849, Giuseppe Gabani was an Italian painter, draftsman and watercolourist. Cavalry officer, he took part in the Third War of Independence, in the 4th Genoese Cavalry Regiment and in the military campaign of 1870. An orientalist and battalion painter, he specialized in landscapes and battles during the Risorgimento, in the context of Roman painting at the end of the 19th century. He exhibited at the promoters of Genoa and Turin; in Rome he was present at the exhibitions of the Società Amatori e Cultori starting from 1884. On behalf of A. Brugnoli he intervened in the creation of the equestrian figures on the ceiling of the Costanzi theater in Rome (now the Opera House). Gabani died in Rome in October 1900.Age: 19th Century / 1801 - 1900
The revolutions in Europe between the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, accelerating social, political and economic changes, favor the birth of a new artistic movement, Romanticism, which places sentiment and love of country and that, detaching itself from the forms of Neoclassicism, proposes a style that shows the deep emotions of man, aroused by real life. In particular, in painting, historical subjects, scenes of popular life and patriotic struggle, the landscape as an expression of love for nature and orientalist subjects are imposed. To express emotions and feelings, we begin to use bright colors, the outlines are blurred, the contrasts of lights increase, to then progressively arrive at a painting, with the Macchiaioli first and then with the Impressionists, "en plein air", pure exaltation of emotions, chromatic effects, subjective impressions.Find out more about the 19th century with our insights:
