Mixed technique on paper. On the back the signature, the date and the title of the work. Also accompanied by photo authentication, with exhibition label at the Galerie CC in Graz. From the early 1970s, the Modenese artist Franco Guerzoni began a personal research dedicated to the exploration of the world of archeology and memory; Guerzoni likes memories, in the most positive sense of the term: personal memories and collective memories, constantly poured into his works which thus become dense with stratifications of matter and thoughts, sedimented by time and by the mind in the bed of the river of art. What emerges is a multitude of stories that the tireless artist has always collected starting from the first experiments with photography, passing through the study of archeology, up to artist's books and works with plaster. It comes from an important Milanese private historical collection.

Additional Information

Artist: Franco Guerzoni (1948)

Born in Modena in 1948, Franco Guerzoni had his first one-man show in Bologna in 1973, followed by the group shows Blow-Up (Milan, 1976) and Foto-grafia (1977). Since then the artist's career has been a succession of exhibitions in Italy and abroad. In the 1980s he was engaged in the creation of large wall maps that investigate the idea of an imaginary geography (Travel maps, Grotesques, The forgotten wall) while in 1990 he presented the exhibition project Decorations and ruins in a personal room at the Art Biennale from Venice. From the 1990s onwards, with large cycles of works, his investigation into the concept of time and the poetics of ruin continued, adopting a theoretical figure that can be inscribed in the thought of an "archeology without restoration". From 2006 he began to transfer the painting onto the actual wall, nurturing the idea of a "mural" painting that pursues the relationship with space, architecture and time, using pigment as an agent of revelation, discovery, manifestation of memory, as a strong presence that emerges from the white surface in an almost lyrical way. Guerzoni still lives and works in Modena.
