Saint George 1992

Oil on panel. Signed bottom right. On the back, with Cyrillic characters, there is the title, the date and the location, Bergamo. The Lithuanian artist, who currently lives and works between Moscow, Italy and the United Kingdom, is considered one of the most important contemporary Russian artists. In his large production there are landscapes, still lifes, many portraits of famous people and his surreal compositions, an expression of his peculiar "dream vision" of reality. Even in this table, albeit in the style of traditional icons, the depiction of the famous St. George is proposed in a surreal key that reminds of De Chirico, in which the dragon is replaced by a goose, the Saint's head is an egg, in the outlines there are figures of sorceresses... a clearly unorthodox interpretation! The panel has a vertical slit. The piece is presented in a frame.

Bronze with Owl 1978

Bronze sculpture. Signature and date engraved on the left. The sculptural research of Piero Cattaneo, an artist from Bergamo also appreciated as an illustrator, started from naturalistic features, but his language gradually became more and more symbolic until arriving, at the end of the Sixties, at the original plastic solutions that best distinguish his physiognomy. The artist seeks an increasingly accentuated formal stylization, which vibrates with echoes of distant, archaic cultures to the point of reaching abstract results. Presented here is this owl, an animal of ancestral origins which is placed on a sort of stylized tree, made up of modern architectural elements mixed with naturalistic ones.

Citadel 2001

Mixed technique sculpture: iron, wood and photographs. Pierluigi Rolando, an internationally renowned designer, graduated in textile engineering and established himself primarily in the cashmere textile industry in the family business, he creates garments that he himself defines as “cashmere sculptures modelled on the human body”. At the beginning of the 1970s, he switched to design with collections for active sports and he contributed to the birth of Fila. In his free time, he alternates his sculptural interests with pictorial interests; he makes up figures in expanded polystyrene and collages in wood, cardboard and various materials. However, sculpture has always been his great passion: for forty years, art has been "lived hysterically in the spare time", but since 1993, Rolando has chosen to devote himself entirely to it. Using different materials such as terracotta, recycled iron, wood, he proposes various subjects, with grotesque faces with tense and suffering expressions, strong and caricatured hands, symbols of ancient and heroic deeds from a distant era, with characters of religions and mythology. His visionary universe is populated by warriors, leaders and emperors, horse-totems and imaginary creatures; his art is suggestive, fairy-tale, enchanted. The citadel presented here, which well expresses this passion for mixing very different materials, was created after the tragic collapse of the Twin Towers in New York, in September 2001: the two towers, a symbol of modernity, still stand intact inside a twisted metal plate of decline and decay, created through a twisted metal plate. The sculpture is presented in a plexiglass case.

Untitled

Mixed technique on fabric scraps, with added elements of various materials. The square canvas drawn with oil presents a figure of a woman on horseback; the horse's tail, to be applied on top, is made of synthetic hair; the painting is also accompanied by a small rectangular canvas with a text written in English, like the excerpt of a letter, and a ceramic ashtray in the shape of a horse, proposed alongside each other. Jenny Watson is an Australian artist (born and trained in Melbourne) who has adopted different stylistic approaches to her painting, using a range of different materials and fabrics, such as velvet elements and collages, and often combining images and words. The subjects she proposed have always tended to be autobiographical: starting from punk and feminist inspirations, Jenny Watson recreates an intimate diary in which figures and words intertwine to compose short daily narratives. Her personal iconography is made up of self-portraits (the red-haired woman is none other than the artist herself), horses, cats, domestic interiors and lettering, rendered with very fresh brushstrokes that leave a lot of space to the imagination, even if the figures are rendered in a very rigid and fixed way, as if to denounce the absence of social movement, especially towards women. Her pieces are often accompanied by small coloured canvases that display poetic descriptions of her work, making the viewer's identification process immediate. The piece proposed here was presented at a solo exhibition by Jenny Watson held in Trento in 2018, at the Raffaelli Art Studio, entitled "Jenny around the world". It is accompanied by photos showing how its presentation at this exhibition was carried out, and the invitation card to the exhibition of the buyers of the work is also attached. A small catalogue of the artist's exhibition held in Como in 1993 is also attached.

Mountain View

Oil on the table. Signed lower right. Specializing in landscape painting, the painter Romeo Borgognoni mainly depicted glimpses of the Pavia countryside, in a style which, although with realist rigor, draws on impressionism for its bright and vibrant brushstrokes. Here an Alpine view is proposed, with huts in the foreground and the snow-capped massif rising majestically in the background. The work is presented in a frame.

Landscape with Shepeherds and Ruins

Oil on wood. Signed lower right. Antonio Oberto, a post-impressionist painter from Pavia, dedicated himself to landscapes but also to the decorations of public buildings in his city. He mainly proposed views of Pavia and the Pavia countryside along the Ticino, depicted, through rapid brushstrokes, in a late nineteenth-century style. A large landscape is proposed here along the river, precisely the Ticino in its flat stretch, precisely the one that borders the city of Pavia; in the foreground, on the right the remains of neoclassical structures, on the left two shepherds with their flock. The work is presented in a period frame.

Mountain Cabins

Oil on wood. signed lower right. Mario Moretti Foggia lived and worked until his death in Macugnaga, the mountain town in the Ossola Valley that he often depicted in his works, often offering glimpses of mountain huts in the valleys as in this work. Trained at the school of Tallone, Moretti Foggia was predominantly a landscape painter, who proposed realistic views characterized by a very bright and material chromatic palette. The work is presented in a period frame.

Figure in Rest 1969

In Maestro Tozzi's extensive production there are many drawings, such as this one presented here, made with different techniques (ink, pastel, pencil, sanguine), dedicated to the human figure: in his dry and stylized style, Mario Tozzi outlines stylized, refined figurines in their silent and discreet geometry, favored by the absence of color, which brings out the forms on the white paper. Even in his pictorial production, Mario Tozzi's favorite subjects are, classically, figures and still lifes, but both figures and death are a set of solid geometric elements, the sphere, the cylinder, the cone, etc. The bodies are elementary, essential in the lines and details, powerful, statuesque, composed of just modeled solids, while the still lifes are a celebration of Euclidean geometry such as the jugs, bowls, flasks which are paradigms of volume and geometric rigor . Mario Tozzi's compositions are influenced by Cubism for certain cuts, by Metaphysics for certain architectural insertions and by Abstractism for the insertion of geometric figures. Winter landscape

Pastels on paper applied to canvas. Signed lower left. The large landscape is completely dominated by the play of colour: divided into two hemifields given by the sky and the earth (a mountainous land where sporadic fir trees sprout), it sees the pinkish blue of the sky prevail above, under the greenish blue of the snow on the ground , two shades of the same color range that then meet in the skyline of the mountains. Cinotti was a landscape painter who was an exponent of Italian Divisionism, whose painting is characterized by a material and pasty application with touches of spatulated color. In coeval frame.

Chioggia

Oil on the table. Signed lower left. Milanese by birth and training, Leonardo Bazzaro is considered a lively exponent of Lombard impressionism, dedicated to chromatic and luministic research. His very fruitful production of works was dedicated in the early years to Milanese interiors, but then attracted by open-air painting, he moved to landscape views and in particular he was attracted by the color of the Venetian lagoon, which led him to stay for a certain period in Chioggia. As in all of his production, also in this glimpse of the landscape of Chioggia we find a rapid, broad brushstroke, with a strongly material use of colour; the impressionist imprint is evident in the play of light and color. Oil painting on canvas. The great style scene, takes up the pictorial compositions of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the so-called architectural whims, which placed ancient architectural structures, often in ruins, within an Italian landscape animated by popular figures. An artist from Livorno of the Labronico Group, Giovanni Lomi dedicated himself to the production of figures and landscapes, expressing a strong lyricism especially in the marinas. He was also a decent baritone and knew how to combine the love for music with that for painting. Growing up in the countryside in a family of poor social extraction, he developed a love for nature and animals, which were often the subjects of his works. The work is presented in a style frame.
