Jenny Watson Mixed Technique Contemporary

No Title

Mixed technique on fabric scraps, with added elements of various materials. The square canvas drawn with oil presents a figure of a woman on horseback; the horse's tail, to be applied on top, is made of synthetic hair; the painting is also accompanied by a small rectangular canvas with a text written in English, like the excerpt of a letter, and a ceramic ashtray in the shape of a horse, proposed alongside each other. Jenny Watson is an Australian artist (born and trained in Melbourne) who has adopted different stylistic approaches to her painting, using a range of different materials and fabrics, such as velvet elements and collages, and often combining images and words. The subjects she proposed have always tended to be autobiographical: starting from punk and feminist inspirations, Jenny Watson recreates an intimate diary in which figures and words intertwine to compose short daily narratives. Her personal iconography is made up of self-portraits (the red-haired woman is none other than the artist herself), horses, cats, domestic interiors and lettering, rendered with very fresh brushstrokes that leave a lot of space to the imagination, even if the figures are rendered in a very rigid and fixed way, as if to denounce the absence of social movement, especially towards women. Her pieces are often accompanied by small coloured canvases that display poetic descriptions of her work, making the viewer's identification process immediate. The piece proposed here was presented at a solo exhibition by Jenny Watson held in Trento in 2018, at the Raffaelli Art Studio, entitled "Jenny around the world". It is accompanied by photos showing how its presentation at this exhibition was carried out, and the invitation card to the exhibition of the buyers of the work is also attached. A small catalogue of the artist's exhibition held in Como in 1993 is also attached.

Citadel 2001

Mixed technique sculpture: iron, wood and photographs. Pierluigi Rolando, an internationally renowned designer, graduated in textile engineering and established himself primarily in the cashmere textile industry in the family business, he creates garments that he himself defines as “cashmere sculptures modelled on the human body”. At the beginning of the 1970s, he switched to design with collections for active sports and he contributed to the birth of Fila. In his free time, he alternates his sculptural interests with pictorial interests; he makes up figures in expanded polystyrene and collages in wood, cardboard and various materials. However, sculpture has always been his great passion: for forty years, art has been "lived hysterically in the spare time", but since 1993, Rolando has chosen to devote himself entirely to it. Using different materials such as terracotta, recycled iron, wood, he proposes various subjects, with grotesque faces with tense and suffering expressions, strong and caricatured hands, symbols of ancient and heroic deeds from a distant era, with characters of religions and mythology. His visionary universe is populated by warriors, leaders and emperors, horse-totems and imaginary creatures; his art is suggestive, fairy-tale, enchanted. The citadel presented here, which well expresses this passion for mixing very different materials, was created after the tragic collapse of the Twin Towers in New York, in September 2001: the two towers, a symbol of modernity, still stand intact inside a twisted metal plate of decline and decay, created through a twisted metal plate. The sculpture is presented in a plexiglass case.

No Title 1969

Mixed media on faesite. Signed and dated on the back. In the work, the face in the helmet of an astronaut's suit stands out in the bottom right-hand corner: the year in which it was made refers to the first landing on the moon, and the work is therefore intended as a tribute to this unique event in history. The pictorial research of Nevio Bedeschi Bedeschi, originally from Faenza, often mixed elements of reality with an abstract expressionism, but right from the start he opened up to those reflections on social issues that were to characterise his most significant activity over time. In the second half of the 1960s, his research was defined: between memory and chronicle, the human figure or passages of nature come into conflict with geometric shapes that symbolise alienation, solitude and isolation. As well as being a painter, Bedeschi was also a graphic designer: he produced limited edition works and illustrated books of stories, fairy tales and poems for a number of publishing series. The work is presented in a frame.

Thin aluminum laminate sprayed with acrylic colors. On the back there is the self-certification form of the work, with the signature and all the data (title, size, technique, date and dedication). The title is also expressed on the reverse, by punching in the center. "Eugenio Sgaravatti was born in Rome. He attended schools in Italy, Switzerland, Holland and England. The passion for traveling led him to a hundred different countries, deepening his humanistic knowledge. The large amount of messages received in his travels stimulate his vocation and push the artist to devote himself exclusively to painting. He works in his studio in the capital at Villa Iris in Via Appia Antica 107. He paints abstract compositions and landscapes with some figurative jolts. His works contain elements of repetitiveness, which reflect the obsessive and serial character of contemporary life. He paints in oils but also experiments with acrylic paints, polyurethane resins and powder pigments. Given his versatility, the supports vary: canvas, cardboard, wood and metal laminates. " (biography taken from the artist's website). Work presented in frame.

Stan Diggei without Money 1996

Mixed technic on wood. On the back, signature, title and date of realization. Paolo Barrile, a behavioral environmentalist artist, is distinguished by a strongly material painting, which he uses to convey messages with a strong ecological and environmental impact; in particular he is the artist of the Earth Message and Amplified Art, in which he expresses his "ecological madness" on a planetary scale. The work presented belongs to his period of writing and graffiti (1993-2005): in these works, Barrile starts from the most beautiful tags he finds on the street, written straight away, and takes them up with love, arranging them with his colors and his compositional equilibrium, with the aim of saving and passing on to posterity the grafites with which young people fill the city walls. Also in this work Barrile takes up a signed urban graffiti and proposes it according to his personal interpretation. With frame.

Mixed Technique on Paper by Ettore Sordini Italy 1960

Untitled 1960

Mixed technique on paper. Signature and date on the back. Milanese artist, trained at the Brera Academy, Ettore Sordini was a friend, collaborator and disciple of Lucio Fontana; after the first futurist phase, Sordini's painting lets the material value decant and becomes more and more rarefied. His interest in the sign grows and is defined, a thin and gaunt sign, primary but sinuous, and for a soft and delicate color, almost impalpable. Sordini "uses an entirely graphic technique to create on the canvas, in which a single chromatic tone dominates, sparse and subtle traces of color that refer to memories of filamentous anthropoid images." Towards the end of the 1950s, he carried out a deepening of relationship between sign-gesture and nature and the work thus acquires a greater lyrical spatiality, accompanied by a tenuous and delicate chromatism. As is well endorsed by the work presented here, it can be said that Sordini "starts from the sign to arrive at painting using color as a spatial and luminous function. ”The work is presented in a frame.

Mixed media on paper applied on canvas. Signed at the bottom right. Pompeo Borra wan an important exponent of Milanese painting of 20th century. His painting of severe purism proposes square images and compact volumes, blocked and silent situations inhabited by everyday objects and dreamy and motionless characters, mostly female. From the 1950s-60s Pompeo Borra abandoned the solid and monumental volumes of his earlier works and introduced the two-dimensionality, bright colours and extreme synthesis of the figures, always immersed in an atmosphere of metaphysical suspension, which characterise the style of his later works. The work is presented in a frame.
