Style: Baroque (1630-1750)

The term, derived from the phoneme barrueco Spanish or barroco Portuguese and literally means pearl of the formless. Already around the middle of the Eighteenth century in France was synonymous with the uneven, irregular, bizarre, whereas in Italy the word was a memory of Medieval times and pointed to a figure of the syllogism, an abstraction of thought. You wanted to identify this period of history with the derogatory term of baroque, recognizing in it the extravagance and the contrast with the criteria of harmony and serious expression that it was intended to return under the influence of Greek-roman and Italian Renaissance. Baroque, secentista and secentismo were synonymous with bad taste. As far as the mobile, freedom ideazionale, the need for pomp and virtuosity, resulting in a synergy that is destined to produce masterpieces unsurpassed. The materials deployed were worthy to compete with the amazing stories of Marco Polo: lapis lazuli, malachite, amber, ivory, tortoiseshell, gold, silver, steel, precious wood species, and more dressed all the furniture which in form and imagination gave life virtually to a thousand and one night many powerful ingredients. Typical of the period, were supporting parts or ancillary resolved with reasons to the column twisted, clearly inspired by the baldachin designed by bernini for St. Peter's, parties, rich carving, and sculptural high relief and even all round within a vortex of spirals, cones and spirals, curved profiles and broken, finials agitated by gables articulated shaping, grembiuline adorned d ornaments, corbels, buttresses, and quant another d necessary to handle forms and structures. The baroque, however, is the century of the sleight-of-hand: lacquers and paints, the lean flock to the furniture and equipment of furniture to imitate the marbling effects of the veining of marble, or games, of grain of the veneers of precious woods.
