St. Martino donating his cape

Pencil on paper. Signed at the bottom right. Drawing of a pavese painter whose production, after a short modernist period, was close to a traditional lombard post-impressionist at the turn of the two centuries. The main themes were views of Pavia and glimpses od Ticino represented with fast and vibrand brushings and with 19th century angles. He also received several public commissions for the decoration of numerous monuments and buildings of the city of Pavia, in which he frescoed historical and mythological scenes. The design here proposed tells the most well-known episode of the life of St Martin, the young soldier of the Roman imperial army who cut in two his cloak to make a gift to a poor beggar, and who later converted to Christianity. The design is presented in the frame.

Landscape with Figures and Architecture

Oil on cardboard. Signed lower right. Born in Treviso but moved with his family to Milan from an early age, Lucio Cargnel inherited his passion for painting and music from his father Vittore Antonio. As for his father, in Lucio Cargnel's painting an important role is played by the study of light, but associated with the search for a highly scenographic image, with lights and shadows that chase each other among the architectures, expressed through soft, nuanced colors. Among his works are renowned landscapes and glimpses of cities, even imaginary ones, as well as streets, squares and canals; the places of his choice are Milan, Venice and the Ligurian Riviera. Still Life with Vase and Violin

Born in Milan in 1913, and trained at the Brera Academy (of which he later became a teacher), Adriano Gajoni became passionate about the study of seventeenth-century Lombard painters and Dutch and Flemish painting of the seventeenth century, from whose meticulous realism he let himself be inspired. Of strict figurative observance, Gajoni preferred landscapes, portraits and above all still lifes, which he expressed in fairy-tale and allegorical compositions. He mainly practiced oil painting on wood and hardboard. In this still life, a ceramic flower vase painted with eighteenth-century figures is composed on a plane together with a violin, books and a letter; in the background a heavy curtain. Although the subjects and the composition are of an ancient taste, the colors are definitely lively and modern. The work is presented in a style frame.

Landscape with Figures 1924

Oil on the table. Signed and dated lower right. Born in the province of Lucca, Umberto Vittorini artistically trained at the art school of this city, then became a pupil of Edoardo Gordigiani and attended the studio of the divisionist painter Fausto Ciompi delle Notti, a meeting place for Pisan artists of the early twentieth century. He made his debut exhibiting a portrait in Florence in 1910, and later his career led him to propose himself in Italy and abroad, achieving great success. He painted portraits, naturalistic compositions, landscapes of the Tuscan countryside, but his production was characterized by a predilection for the views of Pisa: in particular, in fact, he reproduced this city in its various aspects, in different hours and moments of the day, in its various sites. . He also tried his hand at drawing in black and white in engraving. His pictorial genre was initially considered to have a Neocèzannian matrix, with a personal vision of pointillist painting. Having obtained the chair of painting at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in 1930, he repositioned his style remaining influenced by Carrà's futurism and a certain influence of the Scapigliatura (Arturo Tosi). He was the protagonist several times at the Venice Biennale, at the Rome Quadriennale and at various editions of the Milan Permanente. In reality, Vittorini always considered himself extraneous to any current, taken only by his art, his only reason for living. Vittorini died in Milan in 1979. The work offers a glimpse of a river in the countryside populated by boats and boatmen. In frame.

'Le Piante as dan la Buna' 1962

Belonging to a family of Piedmontese painters, Sandro Vacchetti was an eclectic artist, who experimented not only in painting but also as an illustrator, set designer and above all as a ceramist. Sandro Vacchetti's pictorial production can easily be divided into two main thematic groups: that of portraits, whose stylistic language is similar to that used by the artist for his ceramic creations, and that of landscapes, which mostly portray places familiar to the teacher, linked to childhood memories: places of the soul, filtered through the emotions that make them even more intimate. The small landscape view proposed here belongs to this second group. In frame.

Venice, Glimpse of the Lagoon

Watercolor on cardboard. Signed lower left. Evocative glimpse of the Venetian lagoon, with fishing boats in the foreground and the city skyline in the background. Natale Gavagnin, born in Venice and trained at the Venetian Academy, devoted himself mainly to the landscape, and above all to that of his city and the lagoon. He exhibited mainly at the exhibitions in Venice and Milan. The painting is presented in a stylish frame. The watercolor is in good condition, with gores of humidity on the passepartout.

Lively composition of multicolored chrysanthemums, whose colors in the yellow-red ranges contrast well with the blue of the vase and stand out against an indefinite blue background. Born in Cantù (Co), Giovanni Rossi known as the Painter is considered Saronese by adoption, since since the 1950s he has been able to represent the truest aspects of the Saronno of the past. He was a painter, fresco painter, decorator. The work is a glimpse of the city of Saronno with the bell tower of the church of Santi Pietro e Paolo, seen from the window of the artist's studio. Roberto Aloi was a painter and sculptor from 20th century born in Palermo. He made deep friends with important painters and sculptors such as Dudreville, Messina, etc. He approached the twentieth century, Abstractionism, futurism and artistic trends of his time. From 1950 he worked in architecture and design publishing internationally successful books for the publisher Hoepli.
