Charcoal on paper. Unidentified signature with date to the right of the face. The name of the young woman portrayed, Teresina Rota di Valsecca, is mentioned on the back, with a further date. The work is presented in a coeval conception.

Fisherman's family

Watercolor on paper. Northern European school of the 19th century. A scene of popular life on the seashore is presented: the whole family - wife and children - of a fisherman who has returned from a night out, helps to tidy up the nets and work tools, with the catch lying on the sand and the dry boat in the background. The watercolor was placed in a beautiful antique gilded frame, but larger in size than the painting, so the sky was integrated with another sheet of paper placed behind it.

Oil painting on canvas. The painting offers in ancient style the glimpse of a landing place for fishing boats on the coast, near the village; on the shore in the foreground, figures of commoners waiting for the sailing ships. The color patina is also antiqued; the painting is presented in a 19th century frame.

Coastal Glimpse

Watercolor on paper. Signed lower right. Salomon Corrodi established himself as a landscape painter, creating a large production of views especially of the Roman countryside, but also of the Amalfi coast, Naples, the Ligurian Riviera, which was widely successful throughout Europe. He preferred the watercolor technique. The work is presented in a period frame.

Interior scene

Oil painting on canvas. Not signed, but on the back there is a dedication "Alla signora Clelia Mazzioli, con stima Gaetano Bellei 23 gennaio 1909". The big scene, set in a popular kitchen, sees a woman reading cards to two girls, who ask for explanations by pointing to the figures that appear and seem to compare them with a text leaning on the chair. The work recalls the painting of Gaetano Bellei, due to the strong realism with which the painter painted above all scenes of daily peasant life; he is considered a master of the depiction of human affections and of human reactions and sensations. The painting has slight drops of color. It is proposed in a stylish frame.

Scenes from the Gospel

Tempera on panel. The icon is divided into different scenes, which tell biblical episodes, mainly from the Gospel. The largest central scene shows the risen Jesus who lets himself be recognized by the Magdalene above and by the disciples gathered in the Upper Room below; all around, episodes that start chronologically at the top left with the three Angels of Shechem, and then touch on various evangelical moments in the life of Mary and Jesus. The didactic intention of the icon, a form of story and explanation of the scriptures using the visual tool for illiterate people. The panel has several falls and cracks of the color, with a larger central lack. It has rear reinforcement (one strip is missing).

Tempera on panel. Celebration of the Holy Trinity, vertically aligned in the center, with the figure of Christ Crucified dominating. On both sides of the Cross, six figures of Saints, on the right three men among whom Saint George and the Baptist can be recognized; on the left three unidentified female figures. The board is in good condition, with wooden slats with rear reinforcement.

Glimpse of a Country with Peasants and Herds

Watercolor on cardboard. Signed lower right. Paolo Sala, Milanese by birth and training, distinguished himself as one of the most important landscape painters of his period, as well as a landscape painter of the numerous Italian and foreign cities in which he worked. He preferred watercolors, but he also painted a lot in oils. He uses fast and broad, overlapping, impressionist-style brushstrokes, playing with colors and lights to create suggestive atmospheres, as in this glimpse of a village street, animated by peasant women and a flock in transit. The work is presented in a period frame.

The composition sees in the center, vertically, the hanging body of a hare, surrounded by various hunted birds; the animals are placed outside, on the steps of a flower garden of a rich villa, with statues and ornaments, which looms in the background on the left. Nursing Goat 1854

Oil on cardboard applied to canvas. Signed and dated lower right. Renamed the "painter of animals", Filippo Palizzi renewed nineteenth-century Neapolitan painting by dedicating himself to the study from life, above all of the humblest subjects and animals of the peasant environment, creating works of intense realism but permeated by an intimate poetic intonation. He stood out above all for the executive meticulousness of the details of the portrayed subjects, an ability that is also found in this small picture, lively in its simplicity: the little goat seems to keep an eye on the viewer, almost for fear of being disturbed while her puppy feeds on she; all around is a flowery meadow and hedge, to create a serene and luminous atmosphere, with the white fleece, meticulously designed, which stands out against the green of nature. The work is presented in a period frame.

Chioggia

Oil on the table. Signed lower left. Milanese by birth and training, Leonardo Bazzaro is considered a lively exponent of Lombard impressionism, dedicated to chromatic and luministic research. His very fruitful production of works was dedicated in the early years to Milanese interiors, but then attracted by open-air painting, he moved to landscape views and in particular he was attracted by the color of the Venetian lagoon, which led him to stay for a certain period in Chioggia. As in all of his production, also in this glimpse of the landscape of Chioggia we find a rapid, broad brushstroke, with a strongly material use of colour; the impressionist imprint is evident in the play of light and color.
