Oil on cardboard. signed lower right. On the back label of the 1930s triennial exhibition in Naples, with the title of the work. The Cuneo artist Ottavio Steffanini had a life in constant motion, divided between Italy, Europe, America (especially in Venezuela). A restless and unpredictable artist, he concentrated his painting above all on female figures, portrayed with placid sensuality and an opulence influenced by the Spanish masters with whom he studied. But in his production there are other subjects, united by an incessant exaltation of life, of nature. In this small glimpse of an Arab quarter of Tripoli, we find his quick brushstroke, his choice of bright colors to define nuanced but vital, lived figures and places. The work is presented in a contemporary frame.
