The Return from Fishing

Oil on cardboard, applied to canvas. Second half of the 20th century. Of beautiful quality, the scene is interpreted in imitation of the works of the Dutch school of the nineteenth century. The boats of the fishermen who populate the sea, land at the beach where they are awaited by their family, ready to unload the baskets of their catch. The newly risen sun creates a suggestive atmosphere with a romantic flavor, filling the sky and the sea with orange colors. The work is presented in a contemporary style frame.

View of Lake Como, seen from the Lecco side of the lake, in correspondence with the small church of San Martino di Lierna, a small Romanesque church located along the medieval road that descends from the village of Casate to the village of Grumo. Oil painting on canvas. Signed in the lower center. On the back, further authenticated signature and date. Originally from Palermo, but from Milan by training, Gian Rodolfo D'Accardi made his debut in the 1930s, achieving widespread success throughout Italy. His production ranges from landscapes to portraits, from still lifes to masks: of a vague post-impressionist mold, his art is expressed with bright and harmonious colors and with imaginative forms, pervaded with poetic intensity. Among his subjects is the vast and varied series of horses and riders in the woods, to which the work presented here also belongs. In frame.

The work well expresses the ability of the Russian artist Ivan Karpoff, who moved to Italy as a young man and remained there until his death, to tell a Lombard landscape, with a Slavic sensitivity, transferring typical elements of his homeland.
