Description
White marble bust portraying Giuditta Tavani Arquati, a patriot who died on 25 October 1867 together with other patriots planning an insurrection in Rome at the Ajani wool mill, at the hands of a group of Papal Zouaves. The work, sculpted by the artist Achille Della Bitta, presents a second version; this is the bust located in Via della Lungaretta in Rome, in the Trastevere district, inaugurated on 26 October 1879. This is instead a private version created in all probability for the family of the deceased. On the back it bears the author's signature and the year of creation "Alle Della Bitta Sculpi Anno 1879".
