Additional Information

Artist: Bruno Azimonti (1909-2002)

Bruno Azimonti was born in Cadenabbia di Griante (Co) in 1909. His father taught him to draw very early and, when he was in high school, he gave drawings to friends as gifts. His teacher was Gianni Breudelin, one of the best illustrators of the natural beauty and most evocative corners of Lake Como. The will to succeed and the artistic vocation then found valid support from another well-known artist, the painter Stagliati, who used to stay in Cadenabbia during the summer. With the outbreak of World War II, Azimonti, with thousands of other compatriots, found himself at the center of the famous Don's retreat. With the end of the war he was able to resume his interrupted career, but the war experience marked his production, leading him to often reproduce scenes of Russian life. Azimontì established himself as an undisputed master of watercolor and participated in numerous exhibitions and reviews. The artist died in Menaggio (CO) in 2002.
