Woman's Face 1966

Mixed media on canvas. signature on the reverse. Also present is a label from the Cavour art gallery in Milan, with title and date. Plinio Mesciulam, a multi-talented abstract artist, has been defined as "enthusiasm, signs and colors in search of novelty and re-elaborations of his own past". His medialist turn dates from the 1960s to the early 1970s which, in the context of research on visual communication, leads him to the reworking of images taken from advertising or photography, proposing media figures transmitted by invented and enlarged screens. The work is presented in a frame.

Group of Six Silver Cups Brandimarte Florence

Italy Mid 1900s approx

Group of six silver cups with turned stems. The inside of the cups is in silver vermeil. Silver marks engraved on the edge. 700 grams. The French term vermeil indicates a variety of gilded silver. The characteristics required for this material are a sterling silver base, covered in at least 10 carat gold plating and at least 1 and a half microns thick. However, the use of 14-carat gold, with higher thicknesses, is common. The chemical affinity between silver and gold gives the plating good resistance qualities. Currently plating is obtained by electrolysis. Originally, when this process was introduced in France, in the mid-eighteenth century, fire gilding was carried out. Plating allows you to avoid problems related to the oxidation of silver. Vermeil, being more expensive than silver, is a material used to make valuable objects (jewellery, medals, fountain pens, cutlery, toilet sets, watches, coolers, snuff boxes, travel toiletries, etc.). In fact, its cost is intermediate between that of the two elements that constitute it.

Painting Galante Party in the Park

French school. Mid 18th century

Oil on panel. French School. Mid-18th century. The scene depicts a party in a park enclosed by walls with arched openings that open onto the countryside, and decorated on the right with an amphora on a small column and in the center, behind the figures, with a gushing fountain, with statues of cherubs and shells. Two couples of richly dressed ladies and gentlemen are gallantly entertaining each other, surrounded by servants; one of the men is playing the violin, crouched in front of his lady who, flanked by the damsel, follows the melody on the score held by the black man at her side, while two musicians accompany the playing with the flute and a mandolin; the other couple, in an attitude of intimate dialogue, listens on the left, while on the right the hunter returning from the hunt also observes the scene. The painting is presented in a period frame.

Mozart and Aloysia Weber 1885

Oil painting on canvas. Signed and dated lower right. On the back there is a vintage cartouche with the title "Mozart and Aloysia, his first love". Aloysia Weber (1760 -1839), a well-known German soprano, was in her youth a pupil of Mozart (1756 -1791) who was slightly older than her and, according to rumors, the composer fell in love with her but without being reciprocated. Mozart composed a series of arias for the young woman he loved between 1778 and 1788 (Mozart's name appears on the score placed on the spinet), but he was never reciprocated and subsequently married Constance, Aloysia's younger sister. The painting therefore shows a moment of the singing lesson, with Mozart sitting at the spinet correcting the girl standing with the score in her hand; as per good practice, the mother is present in the room and supervises the lesson while she sews. The painting was offered at the Dorotheum auction in Salzburg in 2007. Restored and relined, it is presented in a gilded frame from the early 1900s. The painting
