Figure Breaking the Sword, 1916

Oil painting on canvas. Signed and dated lower right. A youthful work by the well-known artist, it outlines a figure who, against the background of a city, breaks his sword: the man, whose iconographic features and tunic refer to the imagery of the figure of Jesus, with his gesture seems to want to invite peace. The Genoese painter and engraver Alberto Helios Gagliardo, in addition to a large production of landscapes and portraits, many in a symbolist key, also includes several works with religious, mythological or symbolic content. The work is presented in a frame.

Neo-Renaissance cupboard supported by feet carved like a mask, on the front it has a pair of doors framed between uprights carved like a caryatid, to support the band under the top in which there are two drawers. The upper body is supported by shelves carved with monstrous animals and also has two doors, here with glass, framed between festooned uprights and with caryatids, to support the upper band carved with characteristic phytomorphic motifs and a cymatium with a central grotesque mask from which leafy motifs branch out. In walnut, the carvings of the uprights are in pine.

Pair of neo-Renaissance hanging shelves in carved walnut, Italy, late 19th century. The two mirrored shelves depict a putto intent on holding up a bundle of plants, the latter being a support base for the shaped and podded top. The two putti also seem to emerge from a leaf cone ending in a curl.

Oil painting on canvas. Magdalene is depicted here languidly stretched out on a straw bed, naked, with her long loose hair partially covering her shoulders and breasts, and her body hidden by a blue cloth; the Saint is also intent on reading a sacred text with the Crucifix placed in front of her, while little angels hover above her head. As per tradition, the sacred and the profane therefore mix in her figure: the memory of her life as a sinner and the sacred symbols of her conversion. The scene is located inside a dark cave, with a jet of water that flows from the rock on the right, forming a pool. The painting shows signs of previous restoration and re-lining.

Mountain Landscape with Lake 1863

Oil painting on canvas. Signed and dated lower left. The Prussian noble painter Stanislas Eduard von Kalckreuth distinguished himself for the production of mountain landscapes, in particular views including the small bodies of water on the mountain peaks. This work was previously sold at public auction in Munich. Restored and relined, it is presented in a period frame.
