Italy, Early XIX Century

Armchair with cane back and seat, under armrests and legs turned on the bottom.

Pencil on paper. Signed on the back. The drawing is registered in the Fausto Melotti Archive, with code DIS 72006. Fausto Melotti was a multifaceted and very prolific artist and it is almost impossible to link his production to a particular technique or theme, without providing only a partial view of his vision artistic. The salient features that are constant in Melotti are geometry, the study of abstraction, which leads him to use realistic but not scientifically accurate elements, and arranging the elements so that they recall a musical rhythm, a detail that refers to his training as a musician Sculptor, painter, musician, poet, he made numerous design drawings for his works. Drawing represented for him a fundamental exercise, to transfuse the original graphic trait from sheets of paper into sculptures and ceramics. The sculptures for which he is best known are made up of geometric elements made with metals (brass, iron and gold) worked into thin filaments, giving life to ethereal, weightless and almost fragile compositions. The work is presented in a frame.

Oil painting on canvas. Italian school of the 17th-18th centuries. A large composition of colorful flowers, in embossed metal vases, and some fruits scattered on the ground, are placed close to a wall overlooking a maritime landscape: the brightness of the sky and sea on the right contrasts with the shaded area on the left, on which the colors of the flowers stand out. The painting, relined and restored, has a significant crack. It is presented in a contemporary lacquered and gilded frame.

Lombardy Second Quarter 19th Century

Pair of restoration chairs in walnut, Lombardy second quarter of the 19th century. Open back with central folder, decorated with carvings of leaves, curls and anthems; grissinato seat front, saber-shaped rear legs, wavy front legs and embellished with carved leaf elements. Removable upholstered seats.

Mixed media on canvas. The large scene, painted in the unique reddish-pink range, features two large figures on the right, while the entire left side is occupied by a desert landscape, with the waves of the dunes fading into the distance. The two figures depict a seated horseman, wearing a turban and Saracen dress, being fed by a maiden in Western dress, who is handing him a tray laden with food, while on the shelf below is a basin of water, ears of corn and various fruits. This could be one of the many representations of the story of Angelica and Medoro, recounted by Ariosto in Orlando Furioso, which tells of the love between the Christian maiden and the Saracen knave wounded in a clash, who then fled together to Catai, thus triggering Orlando's madness. The work is presented in a frame.

Soapstone sculpture depicting a Guanyin with a basket of flowers. Finely carved with beautiful workmanship of the drapery and attention to detail. Republic period.

Two-layers brown tulle top with bead and sequins. The V shaped neckline and the the underbreast cut are marked by a beautiful framing of colorful sequins; the remaining fabric is decorated with geometrical and floral elements. It doesn't have a label but it suits an XS Brest 78cm, length 57cm

Liverpool c.1840

Writing desk in rosewood supported by twisted uprights framing pinnacle turned elements, they rest on feet equipped with wheels, connected by a central crossbar padded in leather. In the undertop band there are two drawers, which can be opened from both sides, one of which has a liftable writing top with a leather insert. It features stamps “A. Blain, Liverpool ”in five different points.

Baroque style trumeau made of various essences, 20th century Italy. Architectural cymathium with oval mirror, upper part with a pair of glass doors, body equipped with a folding door concealing cabinet, three drawers and shelf feet.

Oil on hardboard. Signed lower right. Further signature, date and title on the back. Giovanni Balansino, Piedmontese by origin but Lombard by adoption, chose to depict his love for both lands with his painting made of broad and nervous brushstrokes, dedicating a large part of his production to them., which this glimpse includes of a town in the Lombard plain. In frame.
