Additional Information

Artist: Aleardo Villa (1865-1906)

Born in Revello (Cuneo) in 1865, Aleardo Villa studied and graduated from the Brera Academy, under the guidance of Giuseppe Bertini and Bartolomeo Giuliano. In 1891 he exhibited his work Consolatrix Afflictorum at the Brera Triennale and gained notoriety as a painter. Equipped with a certain compositional ability and a predilection for cold colors, he specialized in portraits, particularly of female figures. A few years later, however, he abandoned actual painting to dedicate himself to what he defined as "elementary painting", i.e. advertising graphics. Basically, his production as a poster designer is carried out for Officine Grafiche Ricordi in Milan. Villa committed suicide on New Year's Eve 1907.
