Description : Polifemo e Galatea

Oil painting on elliptical board. The mythological scene depicts the cyclops Polyphemus who fell in love for the Nereid sea-nymph Galatea and tried in vain to seduce her by playing his flute while he was playing in the sea with other nymphs and newts. Unfortunately Galatea - who was already in love with the beautiful shepherd Acis - rejected the cyclops who killed Acis for revenge. Fair condition, already restored and relined. In coeval frame. 18th century.
