Description : Paesaggio notturno con figure ed edificio
Oil painting on canvas signed De Vecchi in the lower right corner. The scene depicts a house with lighted windows to the right. A pair of children are walking toward the house holding their hands. To the left, the plain slopes toward the sea enlightened by the lightnings in the sky. On the seashore there are some people fishing and a tree in the middle of the painting. There is a vivid contrast between the white blinding light of the lightnings on one side and the warm lights of the house on the other side. Felice De Vecchi was a noble from Milan who took part to the Five Days of Milan and was friend with many politicians of his period. Lover of painting and artist, he was Francesco Hayez's student. He used to paint a lot of landscapes taking inspiration from his frequent trips. In 1841-1849 he traveled in the East and in 1843 in Europe and then throughout Italy. Relined, the painting is presented in gilded coeval frame. 19th century.
