Description : Scena di esorcismo
Oil painting on canvas. A dramatic scene, set in a church, with the figure of the priest in the center exorcising a young woman; on the sides the two supporting figures, the cleric who offers the tools to the priest, and the father who accompanies and holds the girl. The light of the scene is projected from above directly onto the girl, to symbolically depict the divine intervention in the act that is being performed. Demonic obsession has always been a subject present in art; but if until the sixteenth century the obsessed were depicted, with a symbolic definition, as little demons usually exhaled from the mouth, with the Renaissance revolution the diabolical possessions were depicted with the accurate and realistic description of the physiognomic alterations of the possessed, with the alterations of the face and disjointed postural attitudes. Already restered.
