Description : Autoritratto di pittore

Oil on canvas. German school. On the rear of the painting there is a label dating back to mid 20th century of the historic antique dealer Antichità Subert of Milan. The label attributes the painting either to Franz Winterhalter (1806-1873), his studio, or his beloved younger brother Hermann Winterhalter (1808-1891) who was a portraitist and painter as well. The painting has clear Romantic influences, present throughout Winterhalter's entire artistic production. He was a well known court painter, and was commissioned to paint by English, French, Russian, Mexican and Belgian Courts. The canvas has been relined, the frame is not coeval.
