Description : Compianto su Cristo morto
Oil on paper, applied on canvas. The really refined piece presents an unusually light layer of paint, that suggests it was realized on paper. From an analysis with a lens, delicate and precise traits transpire through the lighter glazing and point to a drawing debossed underneath. The scene depicts the deposition of Jesus from the Cross, according to Christian tradition He is placed in the Virgin's arms, supported in turn in her suffering by the pious women and joined by the Apostle John standing on the left and other men following Jesus. The writing "Questo quadro fie de mi Fra Jacopo Philipo De Arco mercator da Milano" appears on the back of the canvas in 16th century calligraphy. Underneath, a clover monogram with the initials CN on the left. In the middle of the canvas, a barely visible profile of a bird. The painting is presented in a style frame.
