Glimpse of a snowy town

Oil on hardboard. Signed lower right. Born in 1905, Gaetano Valbusa worked for over forty years as a worker in the Brescia Mechanical Workshops, until retirement, devoting himself to painting only as a passion. Landscape painter, thanks to business trips he was able to portray "en plein air" glimpses of the whole world, even if the glimpses of the places in Brescia are the most recurring subject. Affiliated to the Brescian Artists Association, he was able to exhibit his works and make himself known by critics. In his canvases the landscapes are permeated with great serenity and tranquility, an elegy of serene memories of real life. The glimpse proposed here is presented in a frame.

The Dora in Courmayeur

Oil on plywood. Signed lower right. On the back the title. Considered one of the most poetic landscape painters of the twentieth century, the Lombard painter Ambrogio Vismara transposed his love for his native places into his works, dedicating most of his production, and evoking almost all of them in autumnal atmospheres and tones. His peculiarity was the use of the spatula instead of the brush, which allowed him to obtain an effect of tonal spots, with a sharp contrast of planes. Also this work, which reproduces a landscape not in Lombardy but in the Aosta Valley, re-proposes the warm chromatic themes of autumn, evoked by the scrub of yellow-orange trees, which divide the overhanging alpine peaks, harsh and already partially covered with snow, from the river, still alone. a stream, which flows down along a rocky shore. Still Life 1946

Oil painting on canvas. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Additional signature, date and title on the back; also present stamps of the Russian art gallery. Composition of bottles and goblets, which stand out against a two-tone background, with warm yet opaque colors. Born and artistically trained in Florence, Ugo Vittore Bartolini moved to Milan in 1934, or having obtained the chair of drawn figure at the Art School of the Brera Academy. In the following years he participated in numerous national reviews and exhibitions, including several times at the Venice Biennale. If starting from the thirties he established himself above all as a landscape painter, from the second post-war period Bartolini decidedly approached sacred subjects, but he also created series of female nudes and still lifes. His style is simple and communicative, his paintings have a warm and refined chromatism. The work is presented in a style frame.

Glimpse of the Sea with Fishermen

In the Gulf of Naples, identifiable by the Vesuvius in the background, on a sandy stretch of coast a group of fishermen with their women pull the boats ashore. Light and colors fill the atmosphere of the scene. The Neapolitan artist Fausto Pratella, son of Attilio, initially followed his father's leave, painting marine full of light and movement, like the one proposed here, but soon wanted to depart from Attilio's wake, choosing different subjects and techniques, which led him to paint the cold peripheral parks of Milan, bringing in his canvases the evocative visions of those greens, those grays, those browns saturated with that humid and foggy vapidity typically Lombard. Colorful flowers in a white vase, and some fruit scattered across the table, are rendered with large, overlapping brushstrokes, in bright colors on a light background to create a bright and vibrant effect. Teonesto Deabate was a Turin artist who devoted himself not only to painting, but also to other forms of applied art: ceramics, interior decoration, illustration. His pictorial production belongs above all to the post-war period and is made up of landscapes, still lifes but also figures, made in watercolor oil: in it the search for light-color relationships is fundamental, to create sensations of finesse and sensitivity through subtle tonal combinations and elegant arabesques. It is probably a late work by the Florentine painter Guglielmo Zocchi, best known for the lively genre scenes of Greco-Roman setting, which earned him great success especially abroad. As for his father, in Lucio Cargnel's painting an important role is played by the study of light, but associated with the search for a highly scenographic image, with lights and shadows that chase each other among the architectures, expressed through soft, nuanced colors. Among his works are renowned landscapes and glimpses of cities, even imaginary ones, as well as streets, squares and canals; the places of his choice are Milan, Venice and the Ligurian Riviera. Of strict figurative observance, Gajoni preferred landscapes, portraits and above all still lifes, which he expressed in fairy-tale and allegorical compositions. He mainly practiced oil painting on wood and hardboard.
