Description : Ritratto di fanciulla
Oil painting on canvas. Spanish school of the seventeenth century. Inside a garden, a young girl is portrayed in an elegant court dress, full of ribbons and trimmings. In her left hand the girl holds a rose, in her right a white handkerchief edged with lace; in this hand she also wears two rings while, hanging from the neckline by a rich gold bow, there is a filigree pendant inside which a cameo is mounted. The hairstyle is also richly adorned with flowers. The painting has already been attributed previously to Juan Bautista Martinez del Mazo (1612 -1667), the Spanish painter, son-in-law of Velazquez, whose style was based on and who made numerous portraits. The painting was probably part of a composition of portraits. Restored and relined.
