Additional Information

Artist: Ulisse Sartini (1943)

Born in 1943 in Piacenza, Ulisse Sartini established himself as an artist of international renown above all for having painted portraits of famous people, kept in important private collections or exhibited in prestigious museums. Trained at the school of the painter Luigi Comolli, a pupil of Segantini, he was inspired by the masters of Renaissance painting, their technique and iconology, without however renouncing research in new fields. The Holy See commissioned him the portraits of the last three popes: John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis I, placed together with the depictions of past popes in the Basilica of San Paolo fuori le Mura. Among the other portraits made by Sartini, we can mention those of Padre Pio, Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi, Joan Sutherland, Luciano Pavarotti, Mario del Monaco, Luciana Savignano, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Giovanni Verga; he also painted numerous works with a religious subject. His paintings are exhibited in the Vatican Museums, at the Scala Theater Museum, at the National Portrait Gallery in London, at the New Music Theater in Athens.
