Description : San Giovanni Battista

Oil painting on board. St. John is depicted in his iconographic dress: he is wearing leathers and a red cloak, symbol of martyrdom. In one hand, he is holding a walking stick with a Cross on the top, symbol of his role as precursor that anticipates Christ's death. The stick has a label on it with the words John said when he saw Jesus at the Jordan (Ecce Agnus Dei). The other hand - raised and pointing at the sky - solicits the observer to consider also the spiritual dimension of life. The Saint is depicted in a landscape full of trees that frame his figure and underline his verticality. On the background there are some mountains too. On the back of the board there is an antique writing - undecipherable. The painting is in fair condition: there is a breach on the right part of the board. Presented in antique beautiful frame with a series of small collection labels on the back.
