The English painter George Clarkson Stanfield - specialized in landscapes like his father - stood out particularly for the topographical glimpses of different places he visited in Europe: the Italian lakes, Switzerland, the Mosella valley and the Rhine valley. The glimpse here depicted belongs to this region. In fact, it depicts a small village on the banks of the Rhine in the Rhineland-Palatinate. The painting, in fair condition - with some color losses - is presented in coeval frame. 19th century.
