Oil on panel. Signed along the right edge. Coming from a family of the ancient nobility of lombardy, Raffaele Casnedi he studied painting and drawing at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, of which he subsequently became a lecturer, becoming, with Hayez and Bertini, master of a whole generation of painters. He continued, however, to devote himself to art: animated by a fervent spirit of religion he devoted himself very much to the decoration of churches in the towns and villages of lombardy, especially in Brianza; he also took part in the patriotic uprising of the'800, with some production, to a historical subject, but less significant. Collaborated extensively with the Municipality of Milan, in the decoration of public places: he decorated the ceiling of the salone of the Milan central Station, made decorations for the curtain of the Teatro alla Scala and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. Finally, in the production from the stand, next to the strand patriotic-of the risorgimento,was a production of subjects gender veined by romance and a tempered realism. The proposed work is presented in a beautiful contemporary frame in gilt wood and carved with scrolls fogliacee, with some signs of cracks and previous restorations.
