ARARPI0154382
P. Ottino Religious Subject Mixed Technique on Paper XVI Century

The meeting of the Centurion Cornelius with the Apostle Peter

Mixed technique on paper (charcoal, pen, brown ink, watercolor and white lead). Signed Pasqual Otin lower left; coming from a private collection, there are the brands of two previous collections, Dalla Bella and Frigerio. The work is also accompanied by a critical study by dr. Francesco Vincenti and a certificate of authenticity from the Orler Collection. It is a fascinating drawing by Pasquale Ottino known as Pasqualotto, a Veronese painter (the surname Otin corresponds to the Venetian wording) who, after a period of training in Rome, embarked on a painting career in Verona marked "by the Caravaggesque luminism declined in the Venetian style with the use of robust colourism ". Also in this drawing the Counter-Reformation tendency is already perceived, for the meaning of immediate teaching, linked to the dramatic expressiveness of the characters. The episode recounted, drawn from the Acts of the Apostles, sees a Roman centurion who begs for blessing from Peter, inside a room that draws light from the window and is filled with other characters from the newspaper, the attendant on the right and the servant who brings bread and wine to the tray on the left. Central is the intense gaze between the two protagonists, accompanied by the hint of a smile on their lips, to express the joy of the encounter of Salvation. Framed.

La Loi Divine 1927

Ink on paper. Signature, date and title below. Accompanied by authentication on photo from Galleria Giò Marconi in Milan and stamp from private archive. It is the drawing of the young artist who soon became one of the most important exponents of world surrealism, who was a poet and painter, but also a filmmaker, art and film critic, photographer and humorous designer. Born in the north of France, in 1927 he settled in Paris, where he came into contact with a group of young poets and philosophers, with whom he founded the '' Grand Jeu '' movement: play is understood as an art of living. Since 1928 he has collaborated with texts, poems and drawings for the movement's magazine and in the meantime he collaborates as an editor and reporter with various Parisian newspapers. In 1932, having exhausted the experience of the `` Grand Jeu '', he passes to the surrealist movement, collaborating on its publications and participating in its exhibitions. His humor turns towards the unusual and cruelty, more and more derisive of the absurdity of everyday life, of the tragic side of common existence, to which the spirit and the unconscious rebel, trying to access the unobservable. Knows Salvador Dalí. In 1939 he also began his activity as a filmmaker. In 1941 his first personal exhibition took place in Paris: the first buyer was Pablo Picasso. Participate in all surrealist exhibitions, including the 1947 international one in Paris. In 1951, for reasons relating to the internal discipline of the group, he abandoned the surrealist movement with others, while continuing to practice its poetics. In 1955 he also became passionate about photography. Since 1968 he has devoted himself almost exclusively to painting, abandoning the activity of humorous draftsman. In the same year he settled permanently in Milan: in Italy he exhibited in various personal exhibitions, those in Milan at the Galleria Marconi. The work presented here, an early drawing, comes from an important Milanese private collection. It is presented in a frame.

"Per uno Studio sui Suoni.."

Mixed media on paper. At the bottom right the signature and the date. On the back the title, the date and an autographed dedication to a friend. Caccioni, an artist who was born, trained and still lives in Bologna, is one of the protagonists of a generation that has now reached a definitive linguistic maturity and occupies an important space within the contemporary artistic panorama. His research mainly uses unusual materials such as acetates, PVC and, more recently, scenic backdrops of nineteenth-century theatrical works, on which he intervenes by painting forms drawn from a personal memory and suggestions from different cultures and historical periods. A recurring element in Luca Caccioni's work is writing, a self-significant sign that designs the work and is capable of telling thoughts; working by overlapping, the images are constructed by adding or subtracting the color on the various supports. Work in frame.
