Landscape with Mill

Oil on cardboard. Signed lower right. Carlo Vittori, an artist from Cremona, mainly portrayed the landscapes of his Po Valley. Here he proposes a countryside inhabited by a mill, to which the water arrives through an overhead canalization. The painting is presented in chronicle.

Duck Flight

Bronze sculpture. Signature engraved on the base. Gino Masciarelli, a sculptor originally from Abruzzo but who lived in the Milan area, after having also worked at the Experimental Center for Scientific Research “F. Marinotti” in Lombardy, dealing with high-frequency cinematographic shooting, learned to capture the instability of bodies in movement and the dissolution of matter in space in many of his works. In the sculptures "Human groups" and "Flight" - to which the work presented here belongs -, the dynamism of flight can be observed almost as if it were a photographic sequence. The artist himself said: "Only 8 seconds made an impression on 300 meters of film, the aim was to slow down what the human eye cannot see, I wanted to capture the movement and the projection of these seconds lasted a couple of hours".

Child on Pony

Pleasant scene, which portrays a child on the back of a pony: lively and colourful, in the chromatic tones of the earth and the sky, it is part of the production of the Milanese artist who loved to portray popular characters and figures in their daily activities. The Cremonese painter Carl Vittori specialized in landscape views of his Po Valley lands or in scenes with animal figures, always linked to peasant life, like this stable interior inhabited by a donkey. The painter Salvatore Sportelli, of Apulian origin but who lived for a long time in Lodi, where he taught (a posthumous exhibition of his was recently held in the city), produced numerous popular figures and genre scenes characterized by a look at post-impressionism. Sunny Landscape

Fresco on canvas. Signed lower right. Further signature and technique on the back. Placed in the informal Emilian naturalism, Bruno Saetti's painting is distinguished by a significant love for the pictorial material, rich and consistent, pasty and fermenting, but also open to the modulations of luminous vibration. His series of "frescoes" with the Sun as the dominant subject is rich, as in this work, which presents a large bright sun shining on a brick red background, above an indefinite landscape, where only a basilica can be recognized at the top right. If Saetti's Emilian origin is evident in the warm tones of the red bricks and in the very peculiar taste of the material (the favorite fresco), on the other hand the Venetian contamination is recognizable (Saetti lived for a long time in Venice) in his lingering on the color, on its luminous vibrations, on the feeling of astonished amazement of space. Mountain Landscape, 1917

Oil on cardboard. Signed and dated lower right. Originally from the province of Cuneo, Giovanni Rava dedicated himself mainly to landscapes, rendered in realistic forms and with an impressionist touch, in the shades of luministic effects. The work is presented in a mid-20th century frame.

Odalisque 1988

Crayons and collage on paper. At the bottom right are the character's signature and name. On the back there is a label from the Il Vicolo art gallery in Milan. The eclectic activity of Emanuele Luzzati, illustrator, set designer, costume designer, decorator, master of every applied art, was extraordinary; he was also twice nominated for an Academy Award for two animated films. Interpreter of a skilled and cultured figurative culture, capable of masterfully using all sorts of materials (from terracotta to enamel, from wool weaving for tapestries to engraving on different supports, to collages of composite papers and fabrics) to construct sketches of scenes, costumes, naval displays, thanks to the richness of his fantastic world, the immediacy and expressiveness of his very personal style, Luzzati was one of the most loved and admired artists of our time. The sketch is presented in a frame.

Oil painting on canvas. The painting tells the biblical episode narrated in the book of Exodus in which Hagar and her little son Ishmael that the slave had given birth to by Abraham, driven out of the patriarch's house due to the jealousy of his wife Sarah, find themselves in the desert of Beersheba without water: God sends them an angel who helps them by pointing the woman to a well of water. The scene is set in a Nordic landscape, anything but desert, but it is the figures that narrate the episode, standing out at the center of the scene in melodramatic poses. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a late 19th-early 20th century frame.

Portrait of a prelate, flanked by the Scolopi coat of arms, which bears the crowned monogram of Mary and the Greek letters MP and ΘY (abbreviations for Mother of God): in his hand he holds a papal bull with the seal of Pope Clement XI (1649 -1721 ) which bears the writing "Clemens Episcopus Servus Servorum Dei ad perpetuam rei memoriam", the pontifical wording in perennial memory of a fact, which the Holy Father validates or says. The relined and restored work is presented in a period frame.

The subject, recurring in 17th and 18th century painting due to the mystical but at the same time sensual component of this saint, presents Magdalene in the desert, wrapped in her long loose hair and a drape, while on her knees she meditates on the skull, the traditional Memento mori, holding a sackcloth in his hand; Above her is an angel holding the jar of ointments in his hand, another attribute of the saint, whose shoulder he is preparing to anoint, as a sign of consecration to God. The work, restored and relined, is presented in a contemporary frame.

The Milanese painter Gino Federici specialized in Alpine views, as in this view, where in the foreground a flock of sheep drinks water from a stream, in the wide valley, under steep peaks. The painting is presented in a contemporary frame. It shows signs of previous restoration.

Mixed media on paper. Delicate oval portrait of a young man, whose face and hair fade into the pastel colors of the background, which seems to be one with his figure. The work is presented in a contemporary frame.

Study of a Hand 1906

Pencil on paper. Signed lower right. On the back there is a further sketch of a donkey's head. Celada's painting is capable of blocking reality in time and space, in a way that appears detached, analytical and scientifically exact (colours, reflections, transparencies), but communicating - as opposed to a total unreality - a great narrative pathos. Here we propose the study of a hand of the artist who is still very young, but already capable of powerful expressiveness in outlining the figure. Work in frame.

Interior of Stable, 1889

Oil on hardboard. Signed and dated 11-30-1889 lower left. Delleani, who initially painted mainly historical subjects, progressively approached landscape painting "en plein air", especially of the places of his origins, the Piedmontese valleys, characterizing his views with chromatic vibrations and warm brightness. In the last decades of his life, however, he also allowed himself to be involved in the orientalist trend, but then returned to his landscape views, creating above all panels rich in warm colors and suggestive atmospheres. Rarer but equally evocative is his production of interiors, such as this one of a stable, where the animated figures, the sheep, appear as almost indistinct spots of color within an environment played entirely on the luminous effects of a single chromatic range. Restored and protected, the painting is presented in a gilded frame from the early 1900s.

Oil on canvas. Venetian school of the eighteenth century. The portrait proposes the figure of a young woman wearing an everyday dress, but embellished with spotted fur edges; curiously, with the raised arm she flaunts a fur muff tucked over one hand, probably a habit to underline a fashion of the time. The painting shows signs of restoration, with conservation of the original canvas, although reassembled on a new frame. It is presented in a coeval oval frame, but surmounted by a wooden frieze added at a later time.

Ballerina 1896

Mixed media on cardboard. Signed dated lower right. Adolfo Magrini was a multifaceted artist: painter, illustrator, engraver, set designer, after an initial production influenced by the romantic painting of Palizzi and Morelli, he was contaminated by Central European influences, becoming more angular. This youthful work is still influenced by the Neapolitan artists with whom he trained. The painting is presented in a frame from the first half of the 20th century. Has some color damage.

Oil on hardboard. Unidentifiable acronym at the bottom left. In English style, the painting presents a country landscape with a hunting dog sniffing out the scent, followed at a distance by the hunter. The painting is presented in a contemporary frame.

The bust portrays a noble woman, richly dressed. Certainly a portrait, as can be seen from the detailed physiognomic characteristics of the face; the depicted subject has a stern gaze and attitude, an element that characterizes the portrait sculpures of the time. The hair are tied on the back of her head in an elaborate hairstyle with braids. The neck is adorned with a necklace with a medallion in the centre and multiple strings of pearls. She is wearing an off-the-shoulder dress, refined with a thin lace hem and a bow in the middle of her chest. The sculptor has great skills with the use of a chisel to refine details and the texture of fabrics.
